Privacy Policy
How we use your information and the rights you have over it.
Last updated
This Privacy Policy explains how Nueel handles personal information when you visit our website or use the Nueel application (together, the "Service"). It is information about our processing, not a request for consent.
1. Who we are
Nueel is operated by Clément Baudet, a sole trader established in France and the controller of the personal information described here. For privacy questions, contact [email protected].
2. Information we collect
- Account and purchase information: your email address, optional display name, sign-in and session information, and records relating to purchases and refunds. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your Google account identifier.
- Your content: manuscripts, images, cover artwork, book settings and metadata that you create or upload.
- Product and technical information: limited events about features and exports, device or request information needed for security and diagnostics, and referral information when you arrive through a campaign link. Usage events do not contain manuscript text, titles or filenames.
- Communications: feedback, support messages and any optional explanation you provide with a refund request.
We do not receive or store your payment-card number; it is submitted directly to Stripe. We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, conduct session replay or use manuscript content to train machine-learning models.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and secure your account;
- store, synchronise, render and export your work;
- process purchases and refunds;
- provide support and respond to feedback;
- operate, protect and improve the reliability of the Service; and
- meet legal, accounting and tax obligations.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, these uses rely on performance of our contract, compliance with legal obligations, or our legitimate interests in securing and improving the Service. Where we ask for consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Your email address is needed to create an account and provide paid access; other information is optional unless a feature cannot work without it.
4. Where your content is stored
Nueel stores your work on your device so that the application can work offline. When synchronisation is enabled, your manuscripts are also stored on our servers and images are stored with our object-storage provider. We process this content only to provide the Service to you.
5. Service providers and transfers
We use service providers for payment (Stripe), optional Google sign-in, hosting, email delivery, object storage and content delivery (Cloudflare), advertising measurement (Meta), and private operational notifications (Discord). They receive only the information needed to perform their service. We may also disclose information where required by law or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of Nueel.
Some providers process information outside the European Economic Area. Where required, those transfers rely on an adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism. Contact us for information about the safeguards that apply.
6. Retention
Account information and content are kept while your account is open. Deleting the account removes active copies; residual copies may remain temporarily in restricted backups. Payment records are kept as required by accounting and tax law. Support, security and product-reliability records are kept only for as long as needed for those purposes. Usage events are detached from your account when it is deleted.
7. Browser storage and advertising
The Service uses local browser storage to keep you signed in, hold your work and preferences, support offline operation and remember referral information. Blocking browser storage will prevent parts of the Service from working. Nothing you write is ever used for advertising.
Our website measures which advertisements bring authors to Nueel. Page views, sign-ups and purchases are reported to Meta, from your browser and from our servers; the reports identify you by a hash of your email address rather than the address itself. Where consent is required, this happens only if you agree to it when asked.
8. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access to, correction, deletion or portability of your information; restrict or object to processing; and withdraw consent. Write to [email protected]. You may also delete your account from within the Service.
You may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. In France, this is the Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).
9. Fraud prevention
Stripe assesses payments for fraud. A fraud warning or payment dispute may automatically suspend or close an account and refund the payment. Contact [email protected] to contest that outcome and request human review.
10. Security and children
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Nueel is not intended for anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so that we can delete it.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this Policy and will notify account holders of material changes. For questions or requests concerning personal information, write to [email protected].
